Schedule
Section titled “Schedule”When: Friday 12:00-19:30 (one-time task)
Where: ULB Solbosch campus, start at Infodesk K to pick up supplies
Team size: ~10 volunteers, organized in groups of 2-3
What is the signage task?
Section titled “What is the signage task?”Without outdoor wayfinding signs, people get lost on the large ULB campus. You’ll help thousands of attendees navigate to talks, food, and facilities throughout the weekend. Essential work done in small teams, outdoors in February weather.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- Good knowledge of English (other languages useful too)
- Able to communicate clearly and calmly
- Willingness to work outdoors regardless of weather
- Physical capability - requires walking, stairs, reaching high, using cable ties
- Comfort with small group work
What you’ll be doing
Section titled “What you’ll be doing”- Follow the map - each sign has a designated location
- Attach signs securely - use cable ties on posts, railings, fences
- Pull tight so signs don’t rotate or fall in wind
- Trim excess length with scissors for neat appearance
- Correct height & orientation - hang at eye level (~1.5-1.8m), facing where people come from
- Check your work - step back and view from visitor perspective
- Maintain communication - via radio (if available) or Matrix
Task workflow
Section titled “Task workflow”- Arrive at Infodesk K at start time
- Collect signage supplies (signs, cable ties, scissors, maps)
- Organize into groups of 2-3
- Head out and attach signs according to map
- Communicate with coordinator via radio or Matrix
- Return when recalled or all signs complete
- Return any equipment (radios, tools)
- Enjoy volunteer dinner at end!
Safety
Section titled “Safety”- Reach safely - avoid overstretching; ask for help if needed
- Watch for weather - could be windy, rainy, even snowing
- Stay aware - campus traffic and paths can be busy
- Keep hydrated - working outdoors requires water breaks
- Dress warmly - February in Belgium is cold!
What to bring
Section titled “What to bring”- Comfortable, practical clothing you don’t mind getting dirty
- Sturdy closed-toe shoes (essential!)
- Warm winter clothing - coat, gloves, hat, scarf
- Water bottle - stay hydrated
- Personal phone - for Matrix communication if needed
